Mitchell was a contestant on CBS’s Survivor Australia, during the reality show’s Emmy-winning second season. Since then, he has worked as a Survivor wrap-up correspondent for E! Television, as well as a correspondent for Ricki Lake. He worked as a Casting Director on ABC’s Wife Swap, Fox’s Trading Spouses, and The Discovery Channel’s It Takes A Thief, and helped with casting on The Bachelor, The Biggest Loser, Deal or No Deal, Joe Millionaire, and Big Brother.
Mitchell has developed a slew of reality TV show ideas, including: Pack Rats, Scavenger Hunt, and The Moral Auction which was bought by a production company for SpikeTV.
For the past eight years, Mitchell has hosted the Miss South Dakota Pageant and acted as a judge for the Miss America organization. He has a BA in Music Performance from South Dakota State University and worked as a songwriter for various artists, including Elaine Stritch, and Reba McIntire. Mitchell regularly performs in regional theater and is developing an original musical, Miss Demeanor, about a beauty pageant at a women’s prison.
